The 188/220 Camshaft is designed for Cummins 12v engines from 1989-2018, delivering improved all-around performance. This camshaft is especially effective for larger single turbo setups or compounds, making it an ideal choice for high-performance enthusiasts. It is perfect for weekend warriors, drag strip racers, and stock class pulling competitors.
For "drop-in" installation on a 12v engine, the engine must have no more than .020″ piston protrusion and at least .055″ valve face depth with a standard head gasket and a 99 intake centerline. If the engine does not meet the minimum piston-to-valve clearance requirements, using an oversized head gasket or cutting valve reliefs can resolve clearance issues. Although considered a drop-in cam, always check clearances to ensure proper fitment.
Applications
- Ideal for all-around performance
- Suitable for larger single or compound turbo setups
- Perfect for weekend warriors, drag strip enthusiasts, and stock class pulling
- Engineered for Cummins 12v engines
Break-in Instructions
To ensure proper break-in and avoid issues, follow these steps:
- Apply a liberal amount of high-quality assembly lube to the camshaft.
- Do not start the engine without verifying oil pressure.
- Prime the oil pump and oil filter thoroughly, especially for new engines.
- After break-in, change the oil and filter.
- Disconnect the fuel system and spin the engine using the starter until oil pressure is visible or oil is flowing from the rocker arms.
- Avoid running the starter for more than 10 seconds at a time.
- Once oil pressure is confirmed, run the engine for five minutes at 1200-1500 RPM, then shut it down.
- Adjust the valves once the break-in process is complete.
- If you need to re-torque or "hot-torque" the head, do so before adjusting the valves, as this will change the valve lash setting.
