188/220 Camshaft kit for 1989-2018 Cummins engines, delivering increased mid-range power with enhanced durability and performance. Designed for drag strip and stock class pulling applications with specific modification requirements for proper installation.
- Fits Cummins engines (1989-2018)
- RPM Range: 1700-4500
- EGT reduction of 200-300 degrees
- Duration at .050″ lift: 188 Intake, 220 Exhaust
- Warranty available only if our lifters and springs are used
- Ideal for drag strip and stock class pulling
The 188/220 Camshaft is engineered for increased mid-range power and improved performance for drag strip and stock class pulling applications. Operating within a 1700-4500 RPM range and offering a 200-300 degree drop in EGT, it delivers enhanced performance in high-demand environments.
For "drop-in" installation:
- 12v engines: Require no more than .018″ piston protrusion and at least .055″ valve face depth with a standard head gasket and a 99 intake centerline.
- 24v engines: Require no more than .018″ piston protrusion and at least .038″ valve face depth with a standard gasket.
If these piston-to-valve clearance minimums aren’t met, an oversized head gasket or cutting valve reliefs can ensure proper fit. For the steel version, it is necessary to install at least two bushings in the cam tunnel to prevent wear on the cast iron block. It is always recommended to use new lifters when changing the camshaft to ensure optimal performance.
Applications
- Drag strip performance
- Stock class pulling
Break-in Instructions
To ensure proper break-in and avoid issues, follow these steps:
- Apply a liberal amount of quality assembly lube to the camshaft.
- Do not start the engine without verifying oil pressure.
- Prime the oil pump and oil filter thoroughly, especially for new engines.
- After break-in, change the oil and filter.
- Disconnect the fuel system and spin the engine using the starter until oil pressure is visible or oil is flowing from the rocker arms.
- Once oil pressure is confirmed, let the engine start and run until it reaches operating temperature.
- Adjust the valves once the break-in process is complete.
- If you need to re-torque or "hot-torque" the head, do so before adjusting the valves, as this will change the valve lash setting.
