- Fits Cummins engines (1989-2018)
- Heavy-duty pushrods (OEM to 3000 HP)
- 103 valve springs included
- Lifters/tappets included
- RPM Range: 1700-4500
- EGT reduction of 200-300 degrees
- Duration at .050″ lift: 188 Intake, 220 Exhaust
- Prevents valve float and loss in valve lift or timing
The 188/220 Camshaft is designed for Cummins 24v engines (1989-2018), providing superior mid-range power and reduced exhaust gas temperatures (EGT). With an RPM range from 1700 to 4500, it is ideal for weekend warriors, drag strip performance, and stock class pulling. The heavy-duty pushrods prevent loss in valve lift or retarded timing, while the 103 valve springs are engineered to prevent valve float, improving overall performance.
For installation on 24v engines, ensure you have .018″ or less piston protrusion and at least .038″ valve face depth with a standard gasket. If the engine doesn't meet these piston-to-valve clearance requirements, an oversized head gasket or valve relief cutting can be used to accommodate. Proper clearance checking is always recommended.
Applications
- Ideal for 24v applications with 66mm or smaller chargers at low RPM
- Effective for larger singles at higher RPM
- Suitable for moderate singles or compound setups on 24v engines (except VP-44 trucks, where a 178/208 camshaft is recommended)
- Best for weekend warriors, drag strip performance, and stock class pulling
Break-in Instructions
To ensure proper break-in and prevent potential issues, follow these steps:
- Apply a liberal amount of high-quality assembly lube to the camshaft.
- Do not start the engine without verifying oil pressure.
- Prime the oil pump and oil filter thoroughly, especially for new engines.
- After break-in, change the oil and filter.
- Disconnect the fuel system and spin the engine using the starter until oil pressure is visible or oil is flowing from the rocker arms.
- Avoid running the starter for more than 10 seconds at a time.
- Once oil pressure is confirmed, run the engine for five minutes at 1200-1500 RPM, then shut it down.
- Adjust the valves once the break-in process is complete.
- If you need to re-torque or "hot-torque" the head, do so before adjusting the valves, as this will change the valve lash setting.
