The Sun Coast 48RE transmission, rated at 600HP, is engineered for those who require superior performance in towing, hauling, or heavily modified vehicles. This transmission includes several upgraded components designed to improve performance and restore hydraulic integrity.

One significant upgrade is the replacement of the factory accumulator piston. The original plastic piston is prone to deterioration, leading to cracks or complete breakage. Cross-leaks within the bore are also common. To address this, we have replaced the factory piston with a billet version, featuring a four-ring sealing design for enhanced hydraulic integrity and reliability.

To resolve issues with the factory intermediate band circuit, we have upgraded the servo that applies the intermediate band. The factory cast servo is replaced with a larger billet servo that offers increased apply pressure and improved release. This billet servo also features a four-ring design with a primary square-cut Teflon sealing ring and a secondary O-ring.

Further upgrades include a billet band anchor, strut, custom ratio apply lever, and a pro-series carbon graphite band, which improves friction performance and durability.

The valve body and pump are recalibrated, with the separator plate replaced by a laser-cut, Sun Coast-proprietary plate. This modification optimizes line pressure and increases fluid volume. Each valve body and pump is custom-built to meet the specific needs of the customer, whether for towing, street performance, or track use.

This transmission also includes a billet one-piece input shaft made from 300 maraging steel. The shaft is heat-treated and stress-relieved to handle higher torque and stress loads, ensuring it serves as a durable, drop-in replacement.

In addition, the Sun Coast 48RE transmission comes equipped with new overdrive and lockup solenoids, along with an upgraded governor solenoid and DNJ billet solenoid housing for reliable operation under demanding conditions.

The billet triple disc torque converter, lined with carbon graphite clutch material, is equipped with a precision CNC-machined, forged billet apply piston to prevent deflection, ensuring long-lasting performance. The transmission also includes a billet SFI certified flexplate for added safety and durability.
