California Proposition 65 Warning - P65warnings.ca.gov

178/208 Camshaft kit for 1989-2018 Cummins engines, featuring heavy-duty pushrods, 165 valve springs, retainers, locks, and lifters/tappets. Now 49-state compliant, this camshaft enhances bottom-end power and increases efficiency, making it a great choice for high-altitude and low-RPM applications.

  • Fits Cummins engines (1989-2018)
  • 49-state compliant (excluding California)
  • Heavy-duty pushrods (OEM to 2000 HP)
  • 165 valve springs, retainers, and locks included
  • Lifters/tappets included
  • RPM Range: Idle to 4000
  • EGT reduction of 200-300 degrees
  • Quicker turbo spool-up and increased bottom-end power
  • Ideal for high-altitude and low-RPM efficiency

We are excited to announce that the 178/208 Camshaft has passed a round of Federal emissions tests and is now 49-state compliant, excluding California. This camshaft is designed to improve bottom-end power, increase efficiency, and provide quicker turbo spool-up, making it a great option for Cummins engines operating in high altitudes or for those seeking the best possible fuel efficiency.

For a "drop-in" installation on a 12v engine, ensure no more than .020″ piston protrusion and at least .055″ valve face depth with a standard head gasket and a 99 intake centerline. If your engine doesn't meet the minimum piston-to-valve clearance, an oversized head gasket or cutting valve reliefs can accommodate the fit. It is crucial to check all clearances, even for a "drop-in" camshaft.

Applications

  • Our most efficient, low-RPM grind that still performs better than an OEM cam at high RPM
  • Ultimate low-RPM throttle response
  • Suitable for both large and small single turbos
  • Designed for increased all-around efficiency

Break-in Instructions
To ensure proper break-in and avoid issues, follow these steps:

  1. Apply a liberal amount of quality assembly lube to the camshaft lobe and to the block on journals 6 and 7.
  2. Do not start the engine without verifying oil pressure.
  3. Prime the oil pump and oil filter thoroughly, especially for new engines. Use 20w-50 Valvoline VR1 oil for break-in and switch to Valvoline 15w-40 afterward for the best results.
  4. Change the oil after 1,000 miles. Once the filter and oil system are primed, the engine will get oil pressure much faster.
  5. Disconnect the fuel system and spin the engine using the starter until oil pressure is visible or oil is flowing from the rocker arms.
  6. Avoid running the starter for more than 10 seconds at a time.
  7. Once oil pressure is confirmed, run the engine for five minutes at 1200-1500 RPM, then shut it down.
  8. Adjust the valves once the break-in process is complete.
  9. If you need to re-torque or "hot-torque" the head, do so before adjusting the valves, as this will change the valve lash setting.
