178/208 Camshaft kit for 1989-2018 Cummins, including heavy-duty pushrods, 103 valve springs, and lifters/tappets. Optimized for increased bottom-end power and improved efficiency, especially in high-altitude and low-RPM conditions.
- Fits Cummins engines (1989-2018)
- Heavy-duty pushrods (OEM to 3000 HP)
- 103 valve springs
- Lifters/tappets included
- RPM Range: Idle to 4000
- Reduces EGT by 200-300
- Enhances bottom-end power and quicker turbo spool-up
The 178/208 Camshaft is designed to improve efficiency and performance in a wide range of Cummins engines (1989-2018). Whether you're operating at high altitudes, running low RPMs, or simply looking to maximize efficiency, this camshaft offers noticeable improvements. With an operating RPM range from idle to 4000, it delivers increased power and quicker spool-up, making it suitable for a wide range of applications, from small to large turbos.
For installation, ensure that your engine has no more than .018″ piston protrusion and at least .038″ valve face depth with a standard gasket for a "drop-in" fit. If your engine doesn’t meet these requirements, don’t worry—you can still run an oversized head gasket or cut valve reliefs to accommodate.
Applications
- Low RPM efficiency
- Suitable for any size turbo, large or small
- Designed for increased all-around efficiency
Break-in Instructions
To ensure proper break-in and avoid issues, follow these steps:
- Apply a liberal amount of high-quality assembly lube to the camshaft.
- Do not start the engine without verifying oil pressure.
- Prime the oil pump and oil filter thoroughly, especially for new engines.
- After break-in, change the oil and filter.
- Disconnect the fuel system and spin the engine using the starter until oil pressure is visible or oil is flowing from the rocker arms.
- Avoid running the starter for more than 10 seconds at a time.
- Once oil pressure is confirmed, run the engine for five minutes at 1200-1500 RPM, then shut it down.
- Adjust the valves once the break-in process is complete. If you need to re-torque or "hot-torque" the head, do so before adjusting the valves as this will change the valve lash setting.
