Dodge Steering Linkage Upgrade Kit (2003-2008 Dodge Ram)
- Mopar Part Number: 68039930AA (Pitman Arm)
- Application Notes: For 2003-2008 Dodge Ram trucks, particularly those built before February 14, 2008
- Tie Rod Upgrade: This kit ties the front wheels together, eliminating independent toe-in and toe-out adjustments. It improves steering feel and responsiveness, though it does not solve all front-end issues like worn ball joints or steering gear boxes
- Not a Death Wobble Fix: While this kit tightens the front end, it’s not a guaranteed fix for death wobble—other components must be in good condition
- Damper Requirements: The kit requires a different steering damper, as the stock one with a stud-style attachment will no longer work. A damper from a 2009 truck or one of Carli Suspension’s heavy-duty options is recommended for optimal performance
- Optional Pitman Arm: A revised Mopar pitman arm (Part No. 68039930AA) is available. It features an improved angle for better tie rod life and performance, but will not work with the new revised 6-bolt top flange Mopar steering box upgrade
- Clearance Issues: Some aftermarket differential covers may have slight clearance issues. This can typically be fixed by trimming the end off a stud on the steering linkage
The Dodge Steering Linkage Upgrade Kit addresses common complaints regarding steering responsiveness and tire wear on 2003-2008 Dodge Ram trucks. By connecting the front wheels, the kit eliminates independent toe-in and toe-out, offering a tighter, more responsive feel in the steering. However, it’s not a solution for worn front-end components such as the steering gear box or ball joints.
The upgrade kit does not include a Mopar damper or pitman arm. For optimal results, a steering damper designed for this application is required. Options include a damper from a 2009 truck or Carli Suspension’s heavy-duty dampers. Additionally, an optional Mopar pitman arm is available for improving tie rod angle and maximizing tie rod life.
If replacing the steering linkage on a truck built before February 14, 2008, verify that the existing pitman arm is Mopar 68039930AA. If not, it will need to be replaced for this kit to fit properly.
