- Hub machined radius to keep hub from bottoming out of input shaft step.
- New proprietary self lubricating bushings help prevent scoring of input shaft
- Large lube orifices for improved clutch heat dissipation
With the 6.2 supercharged Hemi platform, there is no shortage on power, and it has become apparent Mopar is dead set on bringing Satan's fury to your driveway with the Hellcat, the Redeye, and the Hellephant platforms. What this means for the 8HP90/95 transmissions that go behind these behemoths of torque is nothing short of controlled chaos. Within the chaos we begin to see the weaknesses unveiled.
It is not uncommon to find the E-clutch drum on these units fail catastrophically, resulting in what can be costly collateral damage to your unit. This new 8HP90/95 Billet E-Clutch Drum is the solution you have been looking for.
We start with improving the material we manufacture this drum with. The factory unit is manufactured from a cast material that is highly susceptible to torsional fatigue, which will result in failures as you see above. This new 8HP90/95 Billet E-Clutch Drum is manufactured from 7075-T6 billet aluminum alloy, which has a superior yield strength of 69,000 psi. This improvement alone reduces the chance of catastrophic failure, resulting in expensive collateral damage to your 8HP90/95 transmission.
The oil lube feed for the spline area has been moved from the splines to the larger shoulder of the hub. This improves overall strength of the hub without having the oil lube feed in a critical stress area. The size of the orifices has also been enlarged for better lubrication. If you notice in the photos above, the oil feed holes within the spline are the weak points in which the critical failures occur.
The proprietary bushings in this drum are self-lubricating to assist in preventing scoring of the input shaft, reducing critical hot spots within the shaft and diminishing uneven tempering.
There are also critical improvements made directly to the oil feed of this new 8HP90/95 Billet E-Clutch Drum. In the pictures above, you will notice that the shoulder which holds the internally splined clutch has now received a machined channel to improve E-clutch oil distribution and increase oil volume to the E-clutches. This increased oil volume also aids in the cooling of these ever-so-problematic E-clutches, leading to increased lifespan.
In higher horsepower applications, we have seen cradle movement the causes low drive shaft clearance. Previously when this occurred, the drum would contact the step in the input shaft, which could and would result in beautiful fine metal art being dispersed throughout your 8HP90/95 transmission. This new 8HP90/95 Billet E-Clutch Drum features a machined radius around the hub to keep the drum from bottoming out on the input shaft when this transpires.
This 8HP90/95 Billet E-Clutch Drum has been tested in some of the world's fastest 8HP90/95 equipped vehicles in the world, including our very own Brian Carter's Hellcat, and has consistently put down low-8-second passes for the past two seasons.
